Getting Ready

Starting the Plan for This Trip

July 17 post.

We are preparing the plan for the trip on Route 66.  The most common question what roads will you be on.  We are planning to follow the Route 66 Adventure Cycling map they provide a turn by turn direction for the trip.  In addition we have a book of Route site to stop at and will use both of these guides.

The second most common question is really on scooters.  Well yes and the answer to why scooters is I really wanted to do bicycles but Dianne said she was not sure she could handle all that peddling up the mountains.  So we looked into E-Bikes and they were great but lacked the range we needed to ensure we make it to the hotels and then the loading with the batteries gear would be could become excessive.  So next was the scooters and seem to fit the bill for easy to use and for sure would handle the distance.  We choice a Ruckus for the water cooled engine that would put out power even when hot and did not need special driving licenses.

Now we are preparing for the ride.  We are going on what would be unsupported ride so we have to be self contained.  This means there will no help with things that go wrong.  Flat Tires, no hotels water sources, gas stations.  Therefore we are packing all the stuff we need.  Camping gear, clothes tools, tire repair extra gas etc.

So far as of July 17 we have packed our tent, sleeping bags and sleeping pad.  Now I have to do clothes and cooking equipment as well some support.  Dianne and I will both use camel backs for water as there will be a lot of dry country to be riding slowly though.

Well this is test post to see if I can make it work so here it goes.
