Aug 10 Day 11
Yukon to Clinton OK
Mileage 91 (Includes some Sightseeing)
Trying to beat the heat we were quick out of bed and on the road by 8 with just a granola bar and Banana to eat (of course the mandatory coffee). The forecast was 96F with heat index of 108-111 and winds of 20 miles per hours with gusts to 25.
With the wind and the road conditions we did the 90 miles in about 4 hours which is pretty good I think. Most of the ride was on the old concrete road which means every 100 feet you get a little dip that feels like a mini speed bump. The faster you go the more the shimmies so I was comfortable targeting around 25 and Dianne seemed to keep up OK.
The Towns today are:
- Yukon
- El Reno
- Hydro (could see it but did pass through)
- Weatherford
- Clinton
The shaking and bouncing got to both of us so we stopped at a Starbucks and had Frappicinnos (anyone can send a comment to spell that right).
The land is changing the rocks are dark red due to Iron I would assume. it has become slightly more hilly. The Prairie look of the past few is clearly gone. More ranges and less farming.
Saw a sign for Howards Hills Farm and wondered how he grows hills?
Stopped in a Weatherford to check our map and a guy came over to chat and it turns out he was from Noblesville IN. There seems to fairly low chance of having that happen but it did.
Waterford was the home town of Thomas Statfford one of the astronauts that went to the moon. They have a great museum of space and aeronautics.
