Day 2 , Aug. 1

Danville IL to Lincoln IL

Mileage 97 mile

Work up early and found it a very nice day chilly but Dianne was ready to ride so we started out of course after coffee.

The morning was chilly and I had enough sense to put my coat on so there was no shaking on the ride today.

Rode to Oakwood about five miles out and stopped for gas and did not fill up till we arrived in Lincoln.

The route was easy HWY 150 through the small towns of Oakwood, Muncie, Fithian, Ogden, St. Joesph and into Urbana and Champaign.

Then changed the Hwy to Hwy 10 more small towns of Bondvile, Weldon, Ciliton and into Lincoln.  Some towns are so small there do not even have a stoplight.

We stopped for coffee in Champaign as a Cappuccino sure sounded good.  Right after that the road was closed and we had to find an alternate route out of town it.  The Detour would have put us on the Interstate and that is not allowed so we had to back track.  Then back onto Hwy 10 .  On the way we picked up another Cycle he followed along for another 40 miles.  Dropped off only later only to pick us up in Lincoln while we filled up.  Turns out his name was Tony and owned a Ruckus and a 400CC that he was riding today.  He just wanted to see how the Ruckus handled when loaded.  After talking to Tony a jet pilot came over and visited a few minutes said if he did not have to work on Monday he would join us.

We arrived after only a 4 hour ride including the coffee stop.  So we are really pleased.

The weather today was suppose to include showers but it cleared up and rode dry for the day always a good thing.

Road conditions on Hwy 150 was good and smooth.  Hwy 10 could use a lot of work. The bumps kept knocking my mirrors loose and I had to keep adjusting them.

After arriving in Lincoln we checked into the hotel and again the pool is closed and no breakfast.  Seem the hotels are cutting services and not cutting the rates.

After settling in we went out and did some sightseeing.  Tried to find an Ice cream parlor that was no longer there.  Then stopped at the Potterville court house that (Guess it that is right) Lincoln.  Next stop was the Mill Inn a Route 66 Motel from the 30s I think. You can not go through Lincoln without seeing the world’s largest covered wagon.  After that went to Walmart to buy the electric cord I left home and Ice to eat in the hotel.

After Ice Cream we plotted the ride for tomorrow and found reserved the hotel for tomorrow a story for tomorrow.

Sights seen on the road

  • Except in the Cities more pickup trucks than cars
  • In Cities more than SUV than cars
  • Only 3 beer cans on the road so the road is really clean and it much cleaner than in the past rides
  • Three Motor Cycles passing us and only 6 going the other way all waved
  • A judge of crows
  • 3 slow raccoons, one possum, one deer and goose that got cooked.
  • 3 old fashion cement grain silos
  • One rail station and one old water stack to fill trains
  • One Biden sign and one Trump sign

Comments

  1. Go Roden's Go! Although being cold in the morning will soon not be an issue, don't forget the old cycling trick (as they crest a mountain peak) of sticking a newspaper (if you can find one) under your shirt/coat. Then it is an easy removal at your first stop.
