Day 21 Aug. 20
Holbrook to Flagstaff
total miles 108 miles
A good description for today was good hotel breakfast for the first time in a long time a fast run and disappointing shopping, but a good dinner.
The route was fairly simple followed I-40 or on on I-40.
Towns passed through:
- Holbrook
- Joseph City
- Winnona
- Flagstaff
While leaving Holbrook tried to stop to take a picture of a Route 66 sign and a police car yelled at us, “you can not stop there it is a turning lane”. I yelled back sorry and moved on as quickly as possible. Therefore do not blame me for lack of pictures of stage coaches, covered wagons, or dinosaurs.
Then a very fast ride out to I-40 and even after there. At Joseph City we stopped for a Cinnabon and coffee. Hoped back onto the Hwy and flew as fast we could.
Two problems arose on the ride. First was bridge repair that eliminated one lane. Then they closed the shoulder a little late for us. So we had to turn around to run back to exit and do an up and over. Back onto I-40 for another quick run until we reached a canyon. It was interesting but only had 2 lanes over, with no shoulder. I stopped and just as Dianne started to brake pull up, a clear spot opened. I yelled goose it and over the bridge we went with no trouble. So we finished in Flagstaff and had no problems.
Dianne had two problems first her charger for the Apple watch broke and her helmet fell apart loosing the cap. So when we reached Flagstaff we hit Best Buy, Wallmart and Office Max. All of them carried the charger but none of them had one. They said the students were back and bought them all to replace the ones they left at home. We bought two different wireless chargers and neither worked. Dianne replaced the apple watch with a cheap watch and then bought a new helmet.
That is basically what happened today
Things Seen today:
- 8 motorcycles 5 waved
- 2 working gas stations outside of town
- 1 Coyote
- 5 yards with old farm equipment as lawn ornaments
- 1 house surrounded by a yellow fence and sunflower
- 5 fields of cows
- 2 buffalo statues
- 4 horse statues
- 3 elk crossing signs
- 2 cattle warming signs
- 1 horse farm
That one lane bridge looks like it was pretty long!
ReplyDeleteA couple hundreds yard long not sure how they decide who backs up as there is no light and no way to see if someone else is on it. It was a little wider than the tunnels we passed though under the freeway.
