Day 23 Aug 22
Seligman to Kingman
Mileage 93 (includes some sightseeing)
Angry today as someone ripped off our spare gas from the back of the bikes but the ride was smooth and fast and followed Old Route 66
Towns passed through
- Seligman
- Peach Springs
- Truxton
- Valentine
- Hackberry
- Valle Vista
- Kingman
At 5:30 heard a car pull into motel looked out the window and I could see the front of the bikes and all was good. Could also see the front of gray van in front of room next door a new car. Thought it was a late check in. Heard a door slam and looked out again could still see the front of the bike with no change. We I went out to load bikes the jerry cans were gone. As I was leaving Seligman I saw what looked like the same car in-front of the air pump by the giant Route 66 picture spot. The guy saw us closed his hood hopped in the car and jumped onto 1-40 west at high speed. I am still mad some one would take emergency supplies like that. I mean total the value is less than $30 the gas cans are worth $25. The bungie cords holding them in place are worth more than that.
Last night Dianne’s left hand was a little swollen we decided to wrap it. While cutting the compression bandage I sliced my finger open (yes it was stupidity). It bleed like I had cut the finger off. Finally got the bandage on with some pressure and it is fine now and the rest of the night. Wrapped Dianne’s hand her swelling has also gone done and is fine now.
So my guess there were three bad things in Seligman the wait for the room, the cut finger and swollen hand, and the theft of spare cans of gas. The gas is a little concerning but I am checking the maps and making sure there are open stations in front of us along the way.
The roads were good today and it was a straight run without many places to stop plus we a doing early morning starts that means the sites there are are mostly closed as we go by. The whole route we did 25-30 and finished in Kingman by noon. Of course the room is not ready and we drove around town but most of the stuff was closed. But the room was ready at 1 pm so that is a good thing.
During the ride today three people stopped to ask if were really from Indiana and did we ride the whole way out on those. They seemed impressed but it so much easier than biking the distance I think they should be more impressed by the true bikers. Maybe they are just surprised to see such small engines do so well. In Seligman we saw some historic 50 CC Hondas so I guess they had experience.
Tomorrow is Dianne biggest fear a big climb with a winding road. Plus we enter California.

Allan,
ReplyDeleteDon’t let 1 bozo ruin it for the rest of the good folks you have met on your journey. Can you buy jerry cans at an auto store or bike shop on your planned route? Or maybe order them on Amazon to be shipped to your next overnight stay? Would not be fun if a Ruckus goes dry. For that matter just the thought is worrisome.
The last comment was from Kevin S from your of you favorite food companies. Glad you guys are having fun but really looking forward to having you back in the Hoosier state, solving issues here and 12,500 away!
DeleteStay Young and Keep Motoring, Kevin
It just pissed me off. We are so close to the end and checking more closely we really do need the containers. They were more of a comfort knowing you had a back up. Anyway to be honest the guy did us a favor the bikes ride better with a lower center of gravity and was wondering what I would do with fool things when I got back home.
DeleteSounds as if y’all have had a rough few days lately. Hang in, enjoy the scenery and think positive thoughts. Then club the SOB’s who done you wrong!
ReplyDeleteAll is good here. Construction has slowed on most homes. We’re told it’s due to lack of material. No rain and things are very dry. On the positive side the drinks are cold and the company continues to be good.
Doug and Jan
Glad the drinks are cold. I decided I earned two margaritas yesterday night.
DeleteSorry to hear about your bad luck recently. Agree with above comments, though. Overall, your trip has had good adventures and mostly nice people! Keep up the good thoughts and sending good vibes your way!
ReplyDeleteYep they are right even riding out of Seligman I was thinking it is beautiful day do not think about it. I suspect I am over it now just makes me mad someone would be so inconsiderate of others and steal someone emergency supply. I just hope he needed more than me.
DeleteWe concur with other bloggers and leave the idiot thief behind and continue to enjoy your adventure. So glad you are having a good ride on nice roads. Hot, dry and humid here, just like AZ, but with much more humidity! Enjoy California and ride like the wind-or a slight breeze😘!
ReplyDeleteMary and Ron
Yep we are making like a slight breeze over the pass Dianne was worried about. Short day position ourselves for gap in available tomorrow.
