Day 24 Aug 23

Kingman To Needles CA

Total Mileage 62 miles

Not a big day but big accomplishment we are now over the pass Dianne was most worried about, in California  and less than 300 miles to finish.  So Things are good.

The ride was on old route 66 most the way.

Towns for today:

  • Kingman AZ
  • Oatman
  • Golden Shores
  • Arizona Shores (Kind of)
  • Needles CA

The pictures can not credit to the scenery today tall mountains, bluffs and desert.  We are back into the heat when we started it was 78 F and in Needles on the other side of Sitgreaves pass it 100F.  Once over the pass the scenery and climate definitely change from almost to desert to true desert.  The temperature also went up about 20F and you just feel the heat pass right over you.

Oatman is cool with will donkeys that we heard on the way up to pass.  Dianne kept up all the way even with the lack of guard rails she had no problems.  I think she was pleased to start down the other side.

Stoped in Oatman toured the town and it was worth while, bought a quartz crystal and kept moving on. By the time we reached Golden Shores Dianne wanted a rest and we shared a burger with hot peppers on it.   Then a quick dip in pool and now thinking about dinner.

Approaching the pass at the top of the pass and over the pass.

Cool springs going up the pass.  Note this pass was part of the Long Trailer movie with Lucy Ball.

                                                                    Oatman AZ

Sight seen today (note the scenery is so spectacular I really was not trying to count)

  • 9 Donkeys
  • 1 old gas station
  • 2 wrecking yards
  • 2 storage location
  • 3 churches
  • 8 bars (most open and serving at 10:30)
  • 14 motor cycles 1 motorized tricycle
  • About 14 “do enter if flooded” signs.  All over dry washes.  I am surprised they did have water gauges as have in Texas so you can see how deep it is when there is some water.

  • RV parks I normally count but today I saw 4 but noticed a lot of RV are just parked in the desert
  • 3 Water totes beside some of the RV on the side of the road.

Comments

  1. Has it really been 24 days? The scenery looks spectacular. Stay cool, hydrated and sober.

Nothing new here…heat, humidity and no rain.
