Day 26 Aug 25
Ludlow to Victorville
Milage 94
Another day of fast running few sights. No real problems a couple of cars passing on Solid lines and I would be much more relaxed with a few less cars.
The Route followed Historic Route 66 on State Road 66
Towns passed through today
- Ludlow (Motel rooms were clean cafe food OK)
- Newberry Springs
- Daggett
- Barstow (nice town lots of Old Route 66 buildings still standing)’
- HelenDale (no comment as did not see much of it just the gas station outside of town)
- Oro Grande (has nice pizza shop with the name cross Eye Cow)
- Victorville.
The ride was smooth all morning. When we stopped at Elmer Glass Ranch for pictures. Dianne drove up on the shoulder and then when returning to the road dropped the bike no harm to her or the bike. But she was shaken up a little. But she she still finished the ride without any problems.
The scenery was a little boring a lot of desert and a lot good views but very poor photo opportunities. The haze due to smoke from the CA fires with the odor coming down late in the afternoon.
The hotel I selected last night looked really good on line with a 4 star rating. When we arrived in Victorville could not find the place. The reason is it is an old route 66 hotel with no WiFi. The sign is really broken no glass what so ever. The Room turns out to be really well finished and clean but the pictures on the web sure sold the hotel as something better.
Tomorrow we will finish the ride out. One last climb in the morning then down and through the city. The hotel will be much more expensive more than $200 dollars a night. The return rental is becoming a problem. U-Haul gave one price and a pick up location then called and cancelled the pickup location changing it to new spot 34 miles away. That makes me very mad but there is not a lot I can do it about. I mean why would they confirm the rental and then call to change it.
Scenery today
Barstow
Before the Fall but not by much
Slights Seen
- 1 road Runner bird
- 1 lizard
- 1 very slow bunny rabbit
- 20 trains (measured one stopped one at 1.75 miles)
- 12 tires on the side of there were 100s of other tires seen but they appeared to be on dune buggy courses.
- 10 old motels (mostly in Barstow)
- 3 old gas stations
Terrific adventure! The ride may be coming to an end but the trip back experience is yet to come. Travel safe!
