Day 3 Aug. 2

Lincoln to Edwardsville

Mileage 131 miles

There was a plan and then a road closed sign changed it. This resulted in a reroute out of Deliverance. I mean it was all single or smaller lane roads I can not believe I found the way but it worked out.  Not a bad thing we saw country I would never have seen otherwise.

The route passed through  (forget the the Hwy) I could not figure them out:

  • Elkhart
  • Sheman
  • Springfeild
  • Chatam
  • Divernon (gas stop)
  • Waggoner
  • Litchfield (we could see, never got there due to detour above)
  • Mt Olive
  • Staunton
  • Worden
  • Hamel
  • Edwardsville (thank god for Comfort Inn)

So I guess you are wondering what we saw along the way the first stuff was the Pig’s Hip restaurant site with an abandoned motel. I have a picture but it is just old signs so if you want to see it you have ask.  The old owner was known as the Old Coot on 66 I hope someday they remember me that way.  Rode by the Viper Coal mine it has the longest outside conveyor belt I have ever seen.  Then an original gas station in Williamsville  in fact we saw three today.  Then in Springfield we stopped at Lincoln’s tomb what a huge site maybe when I go someone will rise money for me to build something on a 1 inch to a foot scale of it for me.

Roads were rough in place.  It was so rough it shook my sun screen out of the camel back.  I need to start using Dianne’s now.

Weather was great I did not even put my coat on today and Dianne took her coat off when we filled with gas.

Road closed looks closed to me

Gas station in Williamberg

Gas Station at Mt. Olive

Rabbit Farm now closed in Staunton

Lincoln Tomb in Springfield

Other stuff seen

  • 4 monarch butterflys (most on the detour)
  • 1 wreck in Springfeild Il (rear ender with the car that hit what ever it was totaled)
  • 1 case of empties and 3 cans
  • only 4 soda cans (still road seems really clean to me)
  • 2 Buzzards both were eating something I did see could smell)
  • Could smell one pig farm
  • 2 slow raccoons
  • 1 red corvette that passed us
  • 3 bicycles non loader for a trip
  • 3 motorcycles all coming towards us only two waved
  • 2 old fashion grain silo sites and one old mill
  • Lots of statues of Lincoln
  • A very long series of signs that was the prayer Hail Mary
  • Too many flags to count seems people are using them to mark a private contractions site for some reason
  • Two Trump signs I yell at them but doubt it does it any good
  • 3 people cutting grass
  • IL state capital buildings
  • 4 cops all on the Interstate.
  • One round barn (again photo on request)
