Day 6 Aug. 6
Rolla to Strafford MO
Mileage 121 (but less if Stupidity is discounted)
Day started out sunny but was cloudy and slightly cool while ride all day. But the weather gods were with us the keep the rain off till we pulled under the roof of Super 8 in Strafford they turned the rain on.
Ok I should discuss the Stupidity. Route 66 is a network of roads and out of the gate this morning I followed a different spur than the route on the map. In three mile turned around and pickup the route again. Then came Waynesville where I followed Hwy 17 out town rather than through town when I woke up and realized I gone wrong it was 15 minutes later. Now changed direction and headed back to route south on Hwy133 back to route made 15 miles on the route but traveled 30 miles. The rest of the time was all on Historic Route 66.
Towns passed through:
- Rolla
- Doolittle (gas stop) and Turn around to see it a second time
- St. Roberts
- Waynesburg
- Crocker (off route)
- Swedeborg (off route)
- Hazelgreen (back on route)
- Lebanon
- Philipsburg
- Conway
- Marshfield
- Stafford (Super 8)
After the returning to route out of Dolittle (what I am currently doing) We picked up a really bad old 4 lane road on to a horrible two lane road. Down some really steep hills to Devils Elbow and then out to St. Roberts. This gave us some really great views and passed through some super woods.
Devil’s Elbow Bridge not my picture as sign of how the day would go. Even thought I swear I took a picture. So goes it.
Then onto Waynesville and that stupidity. After back to route and onto Lebanon. Here we stopped for the museum of route 66.
Now I am really wondering who I am traveling with Dianne has passed up 3 Dairy Queens three days in a row. However I have found I can not pass a Starbuck’s before noon.
